Birding at Pariyej Wetlands (Gujarat)

Updated: Dec 30, 2022

On Independence Day, Sunday Aug 15 2021, Pinak & I ventured out early morning, to the Pariyej Wetlands (near Tarapur, Gujarat) - which is about 70 kms from Vadodara.

Expecting a drive of 1.5-2 hours, we left very early at 5am. We wanted to catch a glimpse of the Jackal family, which was spotted in the region. Surprisingly, with the new 6 Lane Highway (Vasad-Bagodara) which is almost completed, it took us just an hour to reach.

Chirag, Pinak's friend, also joined us from Ahmedabad. He is a frequent visitor to Pariyej and had a very good knowledge of the region and known locations for certain birds.

Thanks to Chirag, we got to see some Lifers - Black-headed Weaver, Sarus Crane, Blyth's Reed Warbler, Cinnamon Bittern, Yellow Bittern, and the Jackal family.

Here are some pictures from the Sunday Birding
